First Spring Greenville Races

This is an album of all the photos taken at the first Greenville Spring Training Race at the Donaldson Center on Feb 19, 2011. Jim Roof, Tyler Dilling, and Matt hartman all competed in their first road races in Cat 5. Shawn Fleming, Dave Pinard and Dustin Wilson competed together in the Cat 4 race. Dustin had an 8th place finish, and the rest were just happy to survive. Was a good safe start to the season.

Club Meeting 8/24 8pm at Depompa's

We'll have a long overdue club meeting next Tuesday, 8/24, at 8pm at Depompa's Comfortable Foods, immediately following our usual Tuesday group ride. The address is 215 West A Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 (Cannon Village). We'll provide updates on the jersey order, group rides (we need ride lead volunteers!!!), upcoming events (Tour de Tots, MS150, etc.), and we'll also have a special guest provide details about the touching story behind a local, upcoming charity ride (Pedaling for Savannah).

We also now have official club T-shirts for sale for $7 each and we will have them at the meeting. You may also get them from John Glass at anytime.

Come join us and bring your appetite. Depompa's has some incredible food and a great beverage selection (www.depompas.com), and they are an official sponsor of our club, offering a 10% discount to club members.

Hayes Finishes a Close 2nd at 24 Hrs of Booty

Central Carolina's own Brian Hayes made a rare public showing at 24 Hours of Booty in Charlotte this past weekend. Brian was using the event as a training ride for his first Iron Man event this fall (Good luck, Brian!). However, our not-so-secret sources told us that Brian may need to step up his training just a bit. As can be seen in this photo snapped at the finish line, Brian fell just short of the win, edging out a competitor on his right, but yielding to a young speedster in Crocs on a red Schwinn.

Central Carolina Wins Again!

nws-crti-win-051910 Last week, we headed back up to the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for another go at the Wednesday night crit series, only this time we rolled in with 6 Central Carolina riders - me, Brad, Houston, Dave, Matt, and Dustin. The weather was perfect once again and the turnout was solid. Brad and Houston's families came out to lend their support (thanks, Richard, Casey, and Theresa!).

With 6 riders, we had enough to talk strategy before the race. Brad and Houston were placed on "break patrol" and had full power to make something happen off the front of the race if they could stay clear, or at least chase down any breaks that looked dangerous. Since we knew from his win at Rock Hill that Dustin can hold his own in a sprint, the rest of us were tasked with making sure Dustin got to the line safely and in a position to take it. With Matt and Dave's mad time trial skills, we felt confident we could pull together a solid leadout train on the last lap.
